His will is likely as follows. It was transcribed by Charlotte Coats Siercks: "Jacob Coats, city of Philly - PA Will Book 15, p 250/#213, wife Elizabeth Coats (Eliza Coats) sons Jacob B. Coats, Abraham W. Coats, daughters Elulan Ann Pierce, Elizabeth B. Wallon, Julie Clingle, Hester G. Coats (looks like), Laura Coats, granddaughter Mary N. Esboyd or Mary N. E. Boyd, daughter of his deceased duagther Francis, executor wife Elizabeth Coats, Joshua Pierce and George Sharswood, witnesses Thomas G. Chase and A.B. Rockey, date signed too dark but 18??, codicil dated 1837, daughter Julies Klingle gift revoked, Klingle's sons George Lydenham Klingle and Joshua Pierce Klingle, witnesses A.B. Rockey and Thomas G. Chase, probated Nov 26, 1841, looks like there was a problem with executors and something took til Jun 2, 1849." He is probably the son or grandson of Alexander Coats of Philadelphia who had a son Jacob abt 1743.

Jacob married Elizabeth BAKER, daughter of Joseph BAKER and Esther UNKNOWN. (Elizabeth BAKER was born before 1780 of Philadelphia, , PA and died after 1841.)
