EVANS, John ¹

  General Notes:

There is a John Evans who left widow, Mary Evans, and was buried in Tyn Rhos, Perry Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio. He was in the Civil War, enlisting in Mar. 25, 1864 and was discharged on Mar. 25, 1865. (CL-168) He is probably the John who achieved the rank of Private in Co. C, 96th Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry. His widow, Mary, is listed in the 1890 military service census. He or she were from Thurman, Raccoon Twp, Gallia Co., Ohio. His was wounded twice. His leg was shot off according to this census before being discharged.
Another John Evans was a Private in Co. C, 173th regiment of the Ohio Vol. Infantry. He enlisted Aug. 10, 1864 and was discharged on June 26, 1865. His address was listed as Holcomb, Perry Twp., Gallia Co., Ohio. (CL-363)
This John might instead be the John D. Evans who was in the Ohio Grave Registration Records for service in the Civil War, Army, Co. K, 3rd Virginia Calvary. His birth date was listed as Jan. 19, 1844. His death date was Jan. 19, 1864 in Charleston, WV. He was buried Jan. 21, 1864 in Oak Hill Cemetery, Jackson Co., Ohio. (CL-167)
