COATES, James 1 2
This James probably died in the district of Wrightsborough MM, GA. He bought 200 acres of land in St. Paul's Parish, Wrightsborough Twp., Province of Georgia in June of 1774. It was bounded by lands owned by the following persons: John Perkins, Joseph Boggs, and Jacob Casten. Wrightsborough Twp. was a track of land granted to the Quakers in 1767. He was listed as a member of the Wrightsboro Monthly Meeting in Quaker records, though no date is given. He became a Methodist like many of the Watsons were when he fell out of favor as a Quaker. One of his descendants believes that he first lived in NC and SC before moving to Georgia. James married Mary BUTTS before 1760. (Mary BUTTS died after Sep 20, 1794 of Columbia, GA.) |
