Solomon could be the son or brother of William or Henry in North Carolina. In other words, it is theory that he is the son of William. His estimated birth date is from 1755-1765. Solomon is on the 1784 tax lists for Johnston Co., NC along with a John and a William Coats who are thought to be his brother and a father. Family tradition from one branch says that he and two of his brothers migrated from VA to Johnston Co., NC around the time of the American Revolution. Solomon purchased 317 acres total from Matt Jones, Sr. in 1787 and 74 more acres in 1798 from George Johnson. He is in the 1790 census for Johnston Co., NC with 1 member of his household over age 16 (himself), 1 male under age 16 and 3 females. In the 1800 census for Johnston Co., NC Solomon lives a few doors from an older Benjamin Coats (upwards of age 45) who could be his brother by age also. Solomon married Temperance UNKNOWN. (Temperance UNKNOWN was born before 1765 6 and died after 1820 of Lincoln Co., Tenn, USA.) |
