bullet  General Notes:

Henry's birth has been listed as about 1720 or 1747. However, the 1747 birth date just seems to be a mix-up with his sons birth dates as they were born abt that year.

There is a theory that this family descends from Thomas and Beulah Jacques Coates, early settlers of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania To support this knowlege in the family, one of Henry's great grandsons was named John Jacques Bankston. For this to be true, Henry, born in the 1720's had to be the son of Enoch who was married in 1723 or an unknown son of Thomas and not through Thomas's son Samuel who wasn't born till 1711 himself.

Henry and his wife lived in Richmond, VA but then moved to Wilkes Co., GA. He or his son Henry were granted 200 acres in a 1774 land grant in St. Paul Co. in 1774 and 200 more acres in Wilkes Co., GA on 1/28/1778. This last grant was on the same day as a Nathaniel and a James Coates (other brothers or sons?). (C-1790, E)

It is known for sure that they had sons Leslie and Nathaniel. According to Susan Gaddis, they also had a son named Henry and there is a Zachariah Coates prominent in Wilkes Co. whose parents aren't known, but could easily be Henry and Sarah again. (C-1919)
