  General Notes:

Wylie's birth date is based upon the 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1830 census records. "1800 26-36 1775-1784; 1810 35-40 1775-1780; 1820 45+ 1775 or before; and 1830 50-60 1770-1800". Wylie lived in Rowan Co., NC in the 1820 census and probably was in Rowan County for each of these census periods.

The bondsman for Wylie's marriage to Sarah Adams was Cornielus Smith. The bondsman are often relatives. Wylie was the oldest Coats living in Rowan Co., NC after 1815. (C-1966)

John A Coats witnessed an 1827 deed between Wiley Coats and Meshack Pinkston. We do not currently know how John A. and Wiley are related. A brother or father/son relationship is most likely.

In the August 1834 in Davidson County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions in North Carolina, there is an entry granting James Coats the rights of administration for the estate of John Coats. Davidson Co., NC was formed from Rowan Co., NC in 1824 and included many persons who had migrated from New Jersey. John Coates theorizes that this John and James are also related to Wiley as he was the only Coats left in Rowan Co., NC that could be a near relative.
