bullet  General Notes:

Her parents are listed as Sylvester and Experience Baker in DAR records and a history of Tennesee, but as John and Josephine Allison Baker in family papers passed down from a gr. grandson, Marshall Coats. If the father is John, he is supposedly also a son of Sylvester and Experience Baker, so Nancy would be the granddaughter of them instead. What confuses the issue here is that John did also have a daughter named Nancy. John purchased land for Nancy's husband, William Coats before they were married in Robertson Co., TN ("William Couts is listed in 1800 where he sells 300 plus acres to a John Baker") and John wills his land to Nancy in 1849 when he dies, which she in turn wills to her heirs shortly thereafter as she died in 1849 also. The most likely scenario taking all these facts into account, is that John is her brother. He introduced William to his sister Nancy and he named a daughter after his sister Nancy. (C-1874)

Other intersections of John Baker and William or Nancy are as follows: John was a juror standing next to William's brother, Barton Coats when the role was taken in April of 1800 in Robertson Co., TN. When John will's his estate in Tennessee to Nancy Baker of Missouri, it was then given to her heirs being listed as follows as she died shortly after: William Coats, James Coats, heirs, Mary Agee, heirs, Nancy Callaway, heirs, John Coats, heirs, Wilson Coats, Rachel Reed, Loadicy Phillips, Tabitha Callaway, Francis Laughlin, heirs, Mahaly Dodds, Hiram Coats and Lemuel Coats. It's likely that the children whose heirs received the estate were deceased by 1849. This would be James, Mary, Nancy, John and Francis Coats.

In Nancy's estate papers, the following grandchildren were listed as heirs of Nancy Coats Calloway, deceased who was the daughter of Nancy Baker: Levisa Ann Gilman (William Gilman was the administrator of Nancy Baker Coats' estate), Elizabeth Ross, Mary Ann Petty, Frances or Frances E. Mastien or Martien, Sena Callaway, and Madison Callaway. 1 4
