Benjamin was on the jury in the court records for Robertson Co., TN in July of 1798, July 1799, Jan. 1802, Apr. 1802, and July of 1802. He was in a law suit, Benjamin Coats vs. John McMillan in Apr. 1802 in that same county.

Benjamin appers to have been in the War of 1812 in NC, with his brothers, William and Wilson according to Bedford Co., TN records. (C-1716, 2049)

He is probably the Benjamin Coats in the 1830 Smith County, TN census with one male age 10-26, one age 20-30, one male age 50-60, one female, age 10-15, 2 aged 15-20, and one age 50-60. That would give his birth date as occurring after 1769.

According to a biography of Benjamin W. Coats, grandson, Washington D. Coats in HISTORY OF HICKORY, POLK, CEDAR, DADE AND BARTON COUNTIES, MISSOURI 1889, Benjamin W. Coats, was born in Virginia, and died in Tennessee about 1840. His wife died about 1847. The death date for Benjamin W. Coats differs from other sources I've seen, but still needs verified one way or the other.
