Barton had a son in 1788, estimating Barton's birth date to be before 1770. Barton moved to Spartanburg, SC according to Charlotte's memory and then he and brother William moved to Robertson Co., TN before 1797. He is on the jury in Robertson Co., TN court records for January of 1797, Apr. 1797, January 1800 April 1800, July 1800, Oct. 1801, Oct. 1803, May 1805, and Aug 1805. He purchased 56 acres from a Mr. Vaughn in 1805. He or his son Barton bought 100 acres in 1811 in Robertson Co. He is possibly the Barton Coates who was living alone in the 1830 Humphrey Co., Tennessee census as over age 60. (C-1704, 1716, E)
