He was only 9 months old when his father died. He was raised by his uncle through marriage, John Reynall, a highly successful business man of the region and came to have great respect for him. Samuel married Lydia SAUNDERS, daughter of Joseph SAUNDERS and Unknown, on 11/12/1775. (Lydia SAUNDERS was born about 1750 1 and died before 1/21/1790 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, PA, USA.)
