  General Notes:

Major John C. Allen was elected Mayor of Edgefield during the days of Nullification. He was the representative for Edgefield in the State Legislature in 1852 until he died of typhoid fever in 1854. Three of his sons died with him. (C-1914)

Major married Hannah Beale COATE, daughter of James COATE and Elizabeth SCOTT, after 1821. (Hannah Beale COATE was born on 2/10/1800 ^{2 3} and died on 5/26/1883 in , Edgefield, SC, USA ⁴.)
