  General Notes:

Beulah was supposedly from Sproxton, Leicester, England and many of the househoulds of her descendants in the Philadelphia area named their homestead's Sproxton. (E)

Beulah was a well respected Quaker, holding the office of Elder in her church and treasurer for the 1730 Yearly Meeting. She was in the upper eschelon and best educated of society, owning green silk stockings that were last in the known possession of descendant Dr. Benjamin H. Coates. The literary ladies of the time were called "Blue Stockings" attesting to members of that group owning colored silk stockings, a rarity. Her will is available in Philadelphia, Book F, p. 223.
