  General Notes:

He was born near the Stillwater River, which runs through Covington, Ohio. John still lived in Miami Co., Ohio in 1843 when his son Eli was born. In 1854/55, he moved his family to Morengo, Iowa where he married his 2nd wife. He had no children by his second wife. After her death, he married again in 1858. During the American Civil War, he enlisted in the 28th Iowa Infantry, Company B at age 42 alongside one of his son, James. This regiment fought at Vicksburg, Champion’s Hill, Winchester, Cedar Creek and Port Gibson. He moved to Nebraska in 1865 where he lived and died his final days.
