She was known as "The Lady of Mercia". She fortified the small town of Warwick against invasion in 914 A.D. In 1068, the first castle of Warwick was built there inside her fortifications. (C-326, 1387) Elthelflaed married Ethelred Ealdorman of Mercia. |
