John VESTAL 1 2 3 4 5 6
This John Vestal could be the John who had a ferry service across the Shenendoah River. If so, on April 6, 1754, Major George Washington and troops passed there noting John Vestal's name in the records. (C-959) In the 6/1/1772 Quaker Meeting records, John was visited for consenting to his daughter's marriage out of unity and providing a wedding for them in his home. This probably referred to daughter Mary who married a Jay who then asked for a certificate to move to Bush River, South Carolina. John Vestal and Ann his wife were disowned on 8/3/1772 supposedly for drinking. They also had a daughter named Elizabeth who was disowned on 8/3/1773 for marrying out of unity to a Bealor. A possible son of John Vestal, was disowned for training in the Militia and hiring a substitute in the Revolutionary War. Vickie Leimback states John died in Berkeley Co, VA (now WV). (C-611, 1380) An inventory of his estate dated 1776 supposedly exists in Virginia. He remained in Virginia when his parents and siblings moved to North Carolina. A couple pictures of his home supposedly exist in the "History of Homes in West Virginia", c. 1937. (C-811, 2141)
• Probate, 1776, , Frederick, VA, USA. This was an inventory of his estate. (C-955) John married Ann POTTS in 1748. |
