WEEKES, Rev. Ralph

  General Notes:

There is a Ralph Weekes living in St. John's parish in Barbados in 1679/80, with 2 servants, 11 negores and 38 acres that is probably this Reverend Ralph Weekes. He might also be the Ralph who was in the militia under the command of Capt. John Dempster in that same census. In his will in St. Phillips Parish dated Aug. 5, 1700, he names son's, Ralph, Nathaniel, John, Thomas, and Roger. (F-160)

As to Ralph's parentage, these are the earliest Weekes in Barbados, any of whom who could be his father. By name, John and Thomas are the most likely. 1) Thomas who left England for Barbados on the "Expedition" on Nov. 20, 1635. (F-596) 2) Symon who came on the Dartmouth on Apr. 15, 1634 at age 16. He was a worsted weaver. (F-397) 2) 3) John who was 21 at the reading of his father John's will probated Aug. 22, 1660. (F-397) 4) Their are two brothers, Thomas and Roger Weekes who were cousins to Nathaniel Webb who would have been born before 1655 in studying his will dated 1705. (F-163)

The possible brothers to Rev. Ralph Weekes are: 1) A Thomas Weekes who owned 11 acres in St. Lucyes, Barbados in 1679. 2) A Thomas Weeks who was under Capt. Robt. Harrison's militia in 1679/80. 3) A Jno. Weekes and wife were buried in the Parish of St. Petters between Mar. 25, 1678 and Oct. 29, 1679. 4) A John Wekes of St. Lucy's Parish owned one slave but no land in the 1679/80 census. 5) A John Weeks was under Captain ELy's Co. in the same census. 6) A Richard Weekes was a soldier under Capt. Scotts Co. in 1679/80. (F-397)
