bullet  General Notes:

Mary lists her birth year as 1867 in the 1900 U.S. Census for Elk Co, Pennsylvania In her marriage licenses though, she lists her birth date as present in 1865. She was slightly older than her first husband.

Mary appears to have married her second husband twice. The first time occurred on 6/5/1909 in Limestone, Cattaraugus Co., NY. They lived in Newton, PA at the time. They married again in 1922. No divorce has been found in between the two marriages. According to her daughter Josephine, it was because Michael had a wife back in Italy. After he heard of his first wife's death, they married the second time. It is not known whether Mary knew of Michael's other wife, when she married him in 1909. In her 2nd marriage record, she lists her 1st husband's death date as Oct. 30, 1906. (D-Doc)

In the 1900 census for her, it states she emigrated in 1891. This is a year for which the immigration records were burned in the fire at Ellis Island in the later 1890's. Either of the following 2 persons might be her: Mary Dudick who came into Ellis Island on Mar 10, 1902 from Hamburg on the Pretoria. She was listed at age 36, married, from Gorna as her place of origin. She listed her ethnicity as Hungarian. It is possible that she had returned home for a visit and that this record applies to her so I've included it here. There is also a Maria Dudek who came through Breman, Germany, from Prussia arriving in Baltimore, Maryland on Dec. 15, 1890. She was age 26. Her ship's name was the "Nuernberg". Her destination was listed as Maryland. She was a cabin passenger and had a daughter named Stefania, age 2 with her. These last details make it unlikely it was our Mary unless her daughter's had a first name of Stefania that we were not aware of. All the other facts are a somewhat close match to what we know about Mary Dudick. (D-197)
