He was given the title, Earl of Winchester by King John in 1207. He was a Magna Charta Surety in 1215. To make sure that King John would honor the Magna Charta, the Barons of England elected 25 of their members to take complaints against the King and his officials. If the King did not keep his promises, these Barons would lead a rebellion and take the King's possessions. Saire was one of these chosen 25. He went on the Crusades and died in the Holy Land in 1219 in either Acre or Dementia, Palenstine. His name was also spelled Saher. He is just as often listed as Saire IV and could be confused with a possible son, named Sahr. Authoritative sources need double checked. (C-1363, 1365)
