He was received into Quaker membership on April 25, 1748 at the Monocacy Monthly Meeting. He and his wife got a certificate to remove to Carver's Creek Monthly Meeting in North Carolina. He received a gift of land from his father in Orange Co., NC in 1752 and a grant from Lord Granville on Nov. 1, 1755. (C-575) Joseph married Charity CARRINGTON on May 28, 1750 in Fairfax M.M., Loudon, VA. (Charity CARRINGTON was born in 1730 4 and died on Feb 26, 1803 in Cane Creek M.M., Orange, NC, USA 4.)
