Thomas Coates is proven in two documents to be the son of Lawrence. He was granted letters to be the administrator for his father, Lawrence's estate on Nov. 22, 1615. He was also the witness for his uncle, Everard Coates will in 1613. He was distinguished from his younger cousin Thomas Coates by being called Thomas Sr. in court records. Thomas Sr. was enfeoffed of a moiety of his father's lands in Sproxton. 1
