bullet  General Notes:

Evan O. Evans enlisted in the Civil War in Company E, 56th Regiment at Portsmouth, Ohio on October 15th, 1861. He "saw hard service during the length of the war". He was with Grant at Champion Hill and other engagements opening the Mississippi. He outlasted all of his brothers and sisters and died at the age of 93. (CL:DOC:"Civil War Veteran Dies")

He should not be confused with an Evan O. Evans born in 1809 living in Gallia Co., Ohio. (CL-24)
