  General Notes:

Her name is definitely Elizabeth. She is listed as the mother of John's children in the 1660's in Somerset Co., England. Her surname is believed to be Humphries because of the following extract from Minute Book 1 of Illchester M.M. in county Somerset, England. "15/12/1668 7th minute, from Kingsbury Meeting, "That Thomas Budd & George Taylor do again go & visit James Humprheys and Elizabeth Coate, his sister, and in God's love, warn them again to clear their conscience by their obedience to the truth, and that they no longer absent or withdraw themselves from the assemblies of God's people."

Elizabeth did not ever come to America. She might be the Elizabeth Coate, widow, who died in December of 1720 in Hambrige according to Somerset Quarterly Monthly Meeting Records for Somerset Co., England. The problem with this is there is a John Coate of New Towne, Pennsylvania who was listed free of marriage engagements when he requested a return to England in the 1680's. There could possibly be two John Coate's of Newtowne, PA that are confusing the matter. This would only be this Elizabeth's death record if there are two John's of Newtowne, PA and ours was the married one. Since it was a small town, the likeliest scenario here is that the John who was free of marriage engagements was John Sr's son John who might have come to America for a time near his death in 1681. The other possibility is that I do not understand the meaning of being "free of marriage engagements". (C-199, 253c)

Elizabeth married John COATE, son of Henry C. COATE "The Elder" and Unknown UNKNOWN, on Dec 29, 1663 in Kingsbury M.M., Somerset, ENG. (John COATE was born about 1641 ^{7 8} and died on Dec 29, 1699 in Lambrook, Kingsbury M.M., Somerset, ENG ^{8 9 10}.)
