Walter G. ZOLLER

He was living with his Aunt Regina and her 2nd husband, Leo McDevitt in the 1920 Philadelphia census. According to Jim Dudick's Gr. Aunt Mabel, Walter was raised by his Aunt Regina after his father died and his mother, Rosa, had to work in a wealthy family's home. By age six, Walter was too much of a handful for his Aunt's family. Walter was then sent to his cousin Julius and Katie Pringle Link's family, where he was raised by Katie Link until he was about 17. In the 1930 census, he is the Walter G. Zoller, age 17 who was working as a seaman in Norfolk, VA. He enlisted in the service in 1932 and went AWOL in 1933. When he was caught, he was placed in the stockades in Philadelphia for a year. Katie and her son Leo who was eight years younger than his 1st cousin - once removed, would go to visit him on Sundays in the Stockade. Walter apparently was always a difficult person. He later went to Las Vegas, became a member of the Mob and was a Pit Boss for a Casino in Vegas. He was working in Fremont Casino in Las Vegas when his cousin Regina went to visit him and was last heard from by Regina about 1979. He died in Las Vegas in 1995 according to his Social Security record. His funeral was paid for by his cousin, Leo Link, who grew up with Walter in his family.
