  General Notes:

Listed 3rd in father's will, he was known as Tailor Billy. He purchased land from his father's estate for $200.00 in 1797. (C-168, 800) In 1790, there is a William Jay who had the following members: 1-1-1, 0-0 and lived in the 96th District, Edgefield Co., South Carolina.. (CL-974) This William Jay who was living in Edgefield Co., SC in the 1800 census had 4 males under 10, and 1 between 10 and 16 with himself listed in the fourth column (pr. between age 26 and 45). William married Lydia McMILLAN about 1789.
