Henry COATE 2
Henry's father, John, gave William (his brother) guardianship of his 4 children in January of 1810 in Miami Co., Ohio. This included Henry who was the oldest. Henry lived in Darke Co., Ohio when he acted on behalf of "Granny" Scott after the death of her husband. She was actually his supposed aunt, but they called her "Granny" Scott because she helped care for them on the move to Ohio after their mother had died. They then moved to Warren Co., Indiana. They retained land there when they moved back to Miami Co., Ohio in the 1850 census for a short time before returning lastly to Warren Co., Indiana. These relationships all fit nicely with family tradition on this side. However, there is one major snag. A descendant of this Henry Coate does not have DNA matching other possible sons of Big John Coate, namely William and James. He, however, has somewhat of a DNA match to a Hezekiah Coate who likely descends from the early Robert Coates of Lynn, Massachusetts. Since Henry's father John is not listed in Big John's will, my best guess is that John was adopted and cared for by Big John, but was not an actual son of Big John Coate. Henry married Jane FINCHER on 10/26/1820 in , Miami, OH, USA.1 (Jane FINCHER died on 6/20/1840 in , Warren, IN, USA 1.) Henry next married Sydney Ann ISLER after 1840. (Sydney Ann ISLER was born about 1804 in , , VA, USA 3 and died after 1850.) |
